Oman charges a standard 5% customs duty on most imported goods. Personal effects and gifts often qualify for simplified clearance. The Directorate General of Customs (under the Royal Oman Police) assesses imports through the Bayan system.
On top of duty, Oman applies 5% VAT (introduced in April 2021) on most goods. Documents are duty-free. Electronics, clothing, cosmetics and personal goods fall under the standard rate. The receiver settles any charges at delivery.
