Shipping from Dubai to France means entering the EU customs union, so French Customs (Douane) review your goods when they land. Duty is only charged once the goods value goes above €150. Under that figure most parcels clear without duty, and above it the rate follows the commodity code for what you sent. Common goods such as clothing, accessories and gifts tend to attract low duty percentages.
The bigger cost for many senders is import VAT. Since the EU removed the small-parcel VAT exemption in July 2021, there is no VAT-free floor, so French import VAT at 20% (indicative for 2026) applies to essentially every shipment. The €150 mark relates to duty, not VAT. VAT is worked out on the goods value plus freight and any duty, and the receiver in France usually pays it before delivery, unless it is pre-paid at booking.
Personal parcels normally just need an accurate invoice describing the contents and value. Commercial goods require a French EORI number and correct HS codes. Air express is the default for Dubai to France because it is quick and low-hassle. A parcel collected in Dubai generally reaches Paris, Lyon or Marseille in 2–4 days, cleared through customs and dropped at the door. It is ideal for documents, samples, gifts, electronics and consignments up to roughly 50–70 kg.
Sea freight comes into its own for bulk shipments, furniture or a full relocation. The per-kilo price is much lower, but expect around three to five weeks port to port plus onward delivery to your French address. For a handful of boxes, air usually beats it once handling and delays are counted.
