What the commercial invoice proves
It identifies exporter, importer, goods, quantity, price, currency, terms and declared value. Customs uses it to assess the shipment and the buyer uses it for payment and accounting.
What the Certificate of Origin proves
It supports the declared country of origin. A preferential certificate may support a tariff claim where an applicable agreement and origin rules are satisfied; a non-preferential certificate simply certifies origin.
Fields that should match
Exporter, consignee, goods descriptions, quantities, origin and references should be consistent. A mismatch can cause queries or delay even when both documents are genuine.
How to decide what is required
Ask the importer which documents its customs broker needs, then verify through the official UAE issuing service and destination authority. Product and trade-agreement rules matter.
